i was wondering how you go about checking front axle pin wear on a case 580 super m 4x4 backhoe? what is considered too much wear? is it costly to repair? thanks in advance
Welcome superm buyer! Not sure if you are talking about the pivot/oscillation pin or the king pins. To check king pins simply raise the wheel off the ground & by hand try to lift the wheels in a vertical action. A tip top set of king pins will have zero movement, a bad set, needing immediate attention will allow the wheel to move an inch. To check the oscillation pin lower the bucket so the front wheels are just on the ground. By hand, go & rock one of the front wheels back & forth. Straight forward & backward movement of the axle could be removed by adding shims to the pivot. If the axle has any twist happening, then there may be some wear at the pin & bushing.
