we recently purchesed a case 580b for $5000, and are looking at some jobs to bid on. one is a trench for water and power. it has to go down a steep hill and up another. where is the oil pickup tube in the engine sump? do i trench up hill or down? i have seen guys blow up brand new machine, by not considering this. i was hoping some can give me some insight. thanks guys.

Do not know the answer. But i have run them standing on the loader and laying on there side. Hard to do any digging with the rear in the dirt, so not much of that. No problems ever.

Belarus i worked for an Belarus dealer, and we had a bank send us a 85hp Belarus industrial in crates and pieces. the machine had only 40 hours on it, and on the first job the operator was on to steep of an angle and fried the crank bearings. the owner tried to repair the machine him self. but as an ag mechanic i could tell he had never worked on a tractor before. he tried to pull the engine like you would on a car, later to discover that you need to split the tractor first. he never put anything back together and the bank the had the loan repoed it and sent it to us. it came to us from some ware in MN, apparently we were the only Belarus dealer the would take on the job, we had 160 man hours into rebuilding the machine. it was the first and only Belarus industrial i had ever seen. it ever had its stock air compressor on it, which you only seem to see on special order units. this is the exact thing i wish to avoid, with the CASE.
