I purchased a 1974 580B backhoe with 3500 hrs. The transmission long side gear is broken. The machine has very little wear. Even though the wear is limited when I break it in half to change the long side gear, I figure I should look for wear elsewhere, like shuttle clutch plates. I do not know the nuances of late-model Case backhoes. I would greatly appreciate any advice on what else I should inspect, change, or upgrade when I have the tractor apart.
