CASE 580C Backhoe Fuel/Injector Pump Just wondering if you can help me with my problem I got a Case 580c,For some reason the engine is full of Diesel,apparantly theres been new pump nd seal put on it.I turned it over this morning and diesel is coming out of the breather on top of the engine,theres no oil on the button,just diesel
I think the shaft seal is cut or rolled. You will need to scribe a mark on the pump housing and front cover were it bolts up, take the manifold off, injector lines at the injectors, return lines, fuel filter and lines, stop cable and throttle linkage. Tie the throttle lever back, remove the three nuts and washers that hold the pump on and slide it off the shaft. When you get it off you will see a dot on the end of the shaft, and if you look into the end of the pump you will see the slot and dot to put it back in time after you install new seals on the shaft (2). They are what they call a butterfly looking after installed, one holds in fuel and the other engine oil. They make a tool to install both the seals on the shaft and a two half moon tool to install into the pump. You could have a worn shaft grove or a inner tube issue in the pump. So first you will need to shut the fuel off and remove the pump to see what is going on. It's best to have the tool to stretch the seals, but it can be done without. Their are several members on this site that can give good info to help you thru it and even parts needed since they do pump work. More if needed.
