So the backhoe will dig after repacking two of the cylinders but when i put a load in the bucket she wont steer. So i put a 3000 psi gauge in line at the pressure side of the pump, ran the engine to 2k or so and turned wheels lock to lock. I get a max psi of 750psi max but around 2-400 most of the time, so my question is does this sound like a pump issue? Also can i buy a relief valve for the pump separate? Somewhere i read about the o-ring on the relief valve blowing out and causing loss of psi.? What do y'all think?
Your steering pump is a separate pump and it is most likely bad
Thanks Dave, i was hoping it was something i could get into the pump and fix the relief valve or o- ring, not seeing much for parts other than complete pump tho.
I replaced mine on my 580c last fall i want to say I paid right around $200 for mine and it was pretty easy to swap out. The biggest thing when changing the pump is make sure you dont put the incorrect fluid in otherwise you be back to square one again
When troubleshooting hydraulic pumps the first test should be a flow test, pumps produce flow not pressure, pressure is resistance to flow. Flow test when cold the when warm will tell you pump condition. If it is spec go to the next thing valves ,relief valves ,orbitrols etc.
Put a load on the bucket and try to steer it for a minute. Then get out and feel the steering cylinders. Be careful, if one of them is very hot, it is bypassing fluid and is bad needing re-packed or a new cylinder.
Did you fill the power steering reservoir with hydraulic oil?
