case 580m camshaft

Hi i need to change the rear timing gasket on a case 580m. Not the cover gasket but the one behind the housing. Is there any way of removing the camshaft gear without removing the cam shaft. It looks like the cam gear is the only major thing stopping me from getting the housing off. Does any one have a idea of what to do? Thanks

That's a CDC/Case/Cummins 4BT/3.9BT engine, no? If it is, the cam gear does come out with the cam, I think. Pressed on the end. PS: There is a 'killer dowel pin' that locates the timing case. If is gets loose, it falls into the timing gears. There is a fix that is a sheet metal tab under the nearest bolt to cover the pin hole. I don't know if that applies to your engine...
