I have a 94 Case 590 Turbo, Second Gear does not work. Is it necessary to pull the entire differential to work on the transmission? Or can the trans be removed from the front of the diff. while still in the backhoe?
Welcome to HEF Bob Lucas! You don't want to remove the front cover to repair the gearbox. Remove the transaxle & sit it on it's bottom, facing vertical. A lot easier. Are you sure the linkages & selector forks are moving properly? Had the suction screen out yet? Any signs of mechanical damage?
Tried adjusting linkage, didn't work. It appears to have a bent fork or something that will not let it go all the way in gear, grinds just faintly. Unit has only 2600 hrs, worth fixing. Also needs a brake job and emergency brake repair when apart. I'll do this when I get some time, doesn't look to hard to get the rear end out after drive shafts are removed!
Is it a big job to get the transaxle out of the backhoe?
