Hello all, looking for some insight on my dozer. The motor was replaced about two years ago and i guess the mechanic did not tighten down the injection pump properly. The pump became loose over time and broke one side of the case where it mounts to the timing case. I rotated the motor until the locking pin on the case slid into the timing slot on the cam gear. I then removed the plunger to double check it was correct and reinstalled. Locked down the injection pump by removing the tab and tightening the bolt down tight. Removed the pump and had it repaired. Reinstalled everything and the machine will not run. I do have a service manual and the only step i havent followed is inserting a dial indicator into the back of the pump. From what i can tell the pump and gears should be in time. Any help is appreciated.
How many cylinders.?? The pump is locked down for a 6 cyl.. U do have 12v at the solenoid don’t u.? Did u loosen all the lines AT THE INJECTORS.?? & spin the engine until fuel squirts out..
the 6 cylinder cummins 6-590 yes cracked all lines at the pump and all lines on the injectors and turned until solid fuel came out. I have not verified 12v at the solenoid but i do hear it clicking. I assumed it wouldnt be an issue if it is allowing fuel to the injectors??
That’s logical..
Logical thinking tells us if u have fuel at the injectors, it should start.. Hold the throttle at wide open & crank the engine..
I’ve tried bleeding them several times. Dribbled a little mixed gas in the breather and it will pop off for a second and then die.
Hold the throttle at WFO..and spin the engine.
solenoid on pump reads 22.4 volts Tried starting dozer with throttle held to floor and nothing unless a pop of ether is sprayed into intake. Immediately dies after it’s gone like the throttle does nothing.
The machine shop who repaired the ear on the pump also had to remove the rear section to fix the two T30 bolts on the bottom that broke off in the pump, they’re the bolts that hold to the rear support bracket. Could that be the issue even though the pump shaft was locked?
Had a similar experience recently with a Deere engine and discovered the engine was not on TDC compression stroke. It would pop with spray but never run. Plenty of fuel at injectors. Flywheel pin was in and locked. Had to open the rocker cover to ensure timing. It was 180° out.
Did u get the pump rebuilt or just the hsg repaired.?? On that engine, the timing hole is in the cam gear.. no way to get the timing off. And if the pump is locked at 6:00.. it’s right.. as long as the timing offset is taken into consideration..
just repaired, had no issues other than the broken ear but we were trying to prevent a issue down the road since it started to shake. The keyway on the pump shaft was in the 6:00 orientation when i removed the gear, if that is what you mean
Was it running before u started working on it.?? Sitting here thinking about it.. if the pump had slammed to the side with such force to break the ear.. u locked the pump shaft out of time.. It’s not hard to set the timing correctly, as long as you have a dial indicator in mm and a magnetic base..
No, machine was running fine prior to removal. Came straight off a job.
I think ur gonna hafta set or at least check the timing.
I did take the front rocker cover off and both sides are free. I will get a dial indicator and report back.
