CASE W14 Starter Issue

jackson_s ยท 2015-10-30 10:51

First off thanks for the add. We have a 1981 W14 Case with a 1985 motor conversion. The converted motor is a 100 HP Cummings. The issue we are having is that we are going through starters every couple of months. We have burnt up so many up that NAPA will no longer warranty them. We have checked most of the common issues i believe that would be causing the starts to fry....they are beyond the point of repair. Please someone help and let me know of any issues that you think could be causing this. Thanks in advance!!

I have had the same issue on some of my other equipment and it seams to be most of the time the starter not getting a good enough ground If you have not already I would try to run a ground strap from the starter

Thanks for the reply. We have the starter grounded, ground to battery and the engine is grounded. We have put on new cables, wires, solenoid and starter switch of course all to the starter. We are at a stand still right now i guess.

    is the loader a 12v or 24?

Parts books shows 24, sounds like the starter is 12, Bob's your uncle. Probably whips right over though.

The Case 14s that I owned were 24v . Bet Napa is selling you a 12 v and your frying it .

Cat_man probably has it. Also, is your starter solenoid disconnecting when the ign switch returns from the start position? If the starter stays on while the engine is running, it will die quickly. I've seen that happen a few times.
