Cat 2006 267B – hydraulic leak from radiator fan

shawnmail ยท 2013-10-01 12:55

Hey all - Been putting off replacing the seals on the radiators fan shaft - at least I think that is where it is leaking from. Suggestions / experiences? Ordered a couple different seals that were listed @ the parts dealer - no restock fee. Thanks Shawn

A couple of Service documents on the fan motors for the 267B CYC-prefix machine. 1.New gear motors for the hydraulic fan are used on Skid Steer Loaders and Multi Terrain Loaders. The flanges on the new gear motors have been redesigned in order to eliminate leaks. Improvements in the manufacturing process have been made in order to deliver a more consistent setting of the fan speed which will improve the service life of the gear motor. (Motor Part # does not change. New motor is fitted ex-factory to machines S/N CYC01461-Up). 2. A new seal kit has been introduced for fan motors. The new seal kit includes a improved shaft seal that will improve the service life of the fan motor. The new 278-8716 Seal Kit is a direct replacement for all former seal kits.

Well believe it or not I still havent got around to it - finally got a day off tomorrow where I could get her in the heated shop and get it apart. Any tips / pointers? Have been hunting around for a service manual online but no luck so far. *** Looking at the parts I have here - they dont match up to the kit mentioned above.. 230-3686 (Seal GP), 096-0194x, and 230-3726.. Hoping my dealer didnt screw up..

If your machine Serial Number is lower than CYC01460 and your fan motor is Part Number 225-9260 then the Part Numbers you mentioned above will fit your motor. There is no Disassembly and Assembly procedure for this motor. Remove the whole assembly from the machine, split the fan off the motor and then remove the fan hub. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the motor to the fan guard. Then comes the bit where you have to be REALLY CAREFUL. Screw up here and it will cost you a new motor because there are NO internal parts available for it, not even the seal between the various sections. You will find 4 Allen-head bolts holding the motor mounting flange to the motor body. Remove the bolts then carefully separate the motor end plate from the body. Once you have the end plate off remove the outer lip seal which allows you to get at the retaining clip. Once the clip is out knock the inner seal out of the end plate taking care to note the orientation of the seal so as to be able to install the new one correctly. As per the best service manuals "reassembly is then the reverse of disassembly" ........... have fun.
