hello- was following the older post about perkins pukes in regards to the 2.2 perkins 3024c turbo engine problems. i recently bought a 2003 226a model. wasn,t over concerned since mine is the non turbo version and she runs like a champ. but this post made me go out and check the engine id tag just out of curiosity. on miy engine tag is says the engine is 2.9 L- not a 2.2L. so now i am confused. do i have a replacement engine? my engine does not have a turbo on it. which cat skid steers came with a non turbo 2.9? any insight would be appreciated. thanks, rob
I think you're all right. The 2.9 isn't the engine with head gasket or oil starvation problems. It's basically the Perkins 700-series which was a good old long-stroke slogger with no inherent weaknesses.
i was under the impression the cat 226's came with the 2.2 3024 engines, not the 2.9?
ok. i think i figured it out- the cat 226b came with the 2.2 3024c turbo engine and the cat 226a came with a 2.9 3034. i just assumed the 226a came with the same engine as the 226b just minus the turbo. but i was wrong.
Hey, I am looking for a cat skid steer 226b 3024c engine...without paying an arm and a leg... : ) The one we have has been dusted...have it torn apart, but needs new engine...or someone who can rebuild. It is in the eastern Montana/western ND area...any one know who can help me? I was told if I found a "take out" it would be good, where the engine can be taken out of some unfunctional piece of equipment and used. If its in good running condition.
