Hello all. I have a new to me Cat 226. She did not come with any papers. Would anyone have a link to documentation?
I assume that you are looking for an Operation & Maintenance Manual. The correct one for your Serial Number is Caterpillar Publication reference SEBU7468. This manual contains all the information required related to controls, operation, and basic periodic maintenance. It is NOT a repair/service/test&adjust manual, that is a separate and far more expensive document. Neither is it a Parts Manual. SEBU7468 can be downloaded from https://catpublications.com/ - just put SEBu7468 in the Search Box. The illustration below should appear. Book or CD will attract S&H charges on top of the price, a download (available within 5 minutes) will not. If you want a Parts Manual then search for SEBP2849 - $124 for a download.
A complete Service Manual is RENR2850. Not available for download, only on paper @$733 or CD @$550. Here's a used one on eBay for less - https://www.ebay.com/itm/394105335147
Thank you very much for the links Nige. Much appreciated
Just so you are aware. Here is a link to a paper Parts Manual on eBay for $105 that apparently offers a signifcant saving on the new list price of $146 + S&H. The downside is that it is version 06 of SEBP2849, the current one is version 95........ so not such good value then. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/143608040495?hash=item216fb4cc2f:g:Xx0AAOSwkZlewU4P
Thank you for the detailed tip. I have yet to acquire an O & M manual, but that will be the first on my list. My Tahoe sprouted a leak and of course it’s a radiator she needs, so I have to push the manual back a few weeks. Fortunately the Cat is running great!
Hypothetical question; would I be better with a SEBU from 2001 as opposed to ordering one new from Cat? Would a new version be full of “stuff” that does not apply to my older machine? Thanks in advance mates..
No. The SEBU7468 Publication number is "tailored" to your model, and a few others according to the list on the illustration above. What they have in common is that they are all "A" models (no suffix after the model number in other words). All pubs start at -00, and as they are updated they go to -01, etc. The current version is -07 which is simply the latest version of SEBU7468 and still applies to your machine. As soon as the B models arrived on the market a different publication number would have been issued for them - SEBU7731 actually.
