I have a cat 257b mtl and the alternator is not charging. We just had the alternator rebuilt and still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?
An alternator needs 12 volts to "excite" it. Check to see you have battery voltage to it. Maybe a simple as a fuse. That said, in general an alternator will self excite if spun fast enough.
We checked all the fuses and all of them are good. We also checked if there is voltage to the alternator and there isn't. We also recently installed the electronic work tool attachment control from CAT with the new joystick, but I wouldn't think that should have any effect on the alternator..
