hey everyone i have a 262 CAT and everytime i crank it up the dang black ring that goes around the fuel filter that holds it on vibrates lose. this causes the fuel filter to come off and its a big pain to go back there everytime and tighten it up before it comes off. does anyone else have or had this problem and what did you do? thanks for your comments.
You must be talking about the fuel filter that slips onto the housing and has a black plastic ring that screws on to hold the filter in place. When you turn the ring far enough, it should snap into a notch that locks it. If you don't feel the notch, could be a problem with your plastic ring and you need to replace it. Also, and I don't remember about the 262, but many of those type of filters have to be turned/indexed a certain way to go all the way on the housing. The filter will have an alingment key stamped on the side of the top of the filter that has to align with a slot in the filter housing. You turn the filter until it lines up the slot, then push the filter home, and install plastic retaining ring. I can't remember if your Cat filter/housing works like that. Hope this helps a little.
yip thats how my cat 216 fuel filter works . never had it come off in 2600hrs, check for the wee tabs that atcoequip talks of on the filter. hope you get it sorted soon.
