Cat 297 loader issue

T GRIMM ยท 2010-09-04 09:42

Last week i purchased a 2007 297C, i got it home and was driving around when i noticed that the loader and the tilt for the bucket were unresonably slow, (takes 30 seconds to dump the bucket). so i contacted Cat and they sent a guy out to tell me that he didnt know what was wrong, he tryed changing the settings in his cpu but it woundnt let him. anyone ever seen this or have any ideas of what it could be?

Do the machines hydraulics function better when cold? Couple things here. If they do then it is possible it is a pump issue, or hydraulic filter is restricted and filter bypass is open on startup. Always first thing to do is replace hydraulic filter. If problem continues: Check pump pressure at high and low idle at operating temp? Rule of thumb = difference between High and Low idle pump pressure at operating temp shouldn't be more than around 10%. If so then pump efficiency is low. Do you have a heating problem? Is paint discolored on pump? If so then pump has increased leakage therefore creating excessive heat. If you suspect a pump issue cut old hydraulic filter apart and look for contamination. It will be apparent if the pump is in rough shape.

ive replaced the filter and that didnt help at all, the pump still has black paint, so i dont think its that. I have noticed that when the machine is idling the arms and tillt move faster than when it is at full throtle. one other thing is, if i put it in clean out mode (roll the aux hdyo dile) it makes the bucket move a lot faster. ??????

OoooK...and how much did you have to pay Cat store for a wrench to tell you he didn't know what was wrong with it? Did you look at his truck, then look him in the eye and say, "oh, I'm sorry, I thought I called Cat to send a tech out here." :beatsme

do you have a monitor on the right console. If you do, look through there and there are 3 setting for the speed of the hydraulics. I would check there first refer to the operators manual.

ya it has that and ive turned it all the way up but that doesnt seem to speed up the tilt, just up and down with the loader.

last year my skid steer was slow with the boom unless i had it excessivley revved up and i adjusted this valve thing with a nut on either side until it was better. sorry i dont know the name of the valve, but it was bleeding back or something. it was in the service section of my manual, you might try checking yours for something similar

maybe it was a linkage instead, it was right under the plate in front of the seat and it was somehow connected to my hand controls.
