Put a new set of 18" 3 lug OEM ASV tracks from dealer on Cat 297C the other day. Have about 5hrs of run time on machine and already missing about a pinky width of material on the inside lug. Other two lugs look fine / still tapered. Appears to be seated correctly in squirrel cage rollers on final drive. Possibly hitting rear idler and rubbing rubber on rubber there - possible bearing problem in idler axle? Reached hand around looking for contact but didn't find any smoking gun? Not very pleased given the price of the tracks.... Cat dealer doesnt have experience with the MTLs and ASV dealer is a joke, no good local support or knowledge.
Are all the little rollers loose like they should be? Do the little rollers have uneven wear? How do the tracks look from standing way back behind the machine, are the tracks splayed? What do the old tracks look like?
I would start at the drive assembly doing a detailed inspection. My guess check the bushings. Are they seized or worn out?
