Good morning, currently have a CAT tracked skid loader that is having starting issues. Had gone out to take a look at the tractor and found fuel priming pump filter and water Seperator filter dirty. Found priming pump filter would take a while to fill, they had not been replaced since almost new tractor sitting at 1953.8 hrs. Customer brought me water Seperator filter as well as priming pump with filter on it, he had advised that it had gone out once on him to replace again. After replacing found fuel system priming correctly, bled according to manual and still cranking no start. Found on monitor code E459-2. Inspected in cab fuses and found fuse (F10) - Secondary engine shut off is blown. Installed fuse saver and tested, found it only blows when I start to crank tractor within a second or so. Pin 2 on that fuse is getting constant 12.2 volts when key is on and while cranking slightly drops. My question is what circuit or function does that fuse run to? has anyone delt with a problem similar to this? Did find a thread on here with that specific code ( CAT 259D - No Crank E459-2 Code posted by acolar ) but had no mention of the blowing fuse. Inspected the fuse links and relay behind cab and found no corrosion or damage. Was getting 12 volts to posts. Started to probe wires to find circuit for fuse pin 1 around that area and found it went to the large controller under cab, connector with 80 pins ( pin 52 ) resistance at .5 while performing wiggle test. Figured I would ask to be sure before I go to deep, any help would be appreciated, thank yall so much. ~ Pedro ~
I think you have the same problem. Try using the instructions to fix the problem. Also try disconnecting the ground and removing and cleaning the ECM connectors on the vehicle and engine. HeavyEquipmentForums
Thank you let me take a look !
If you use the forum search function for "E459" it will throw up probably a dozen threads. There have been four that I know of within the last two weeks or so. In order of priority this is how I would suggest you tackle it. Test after each step before moving forward:- 1. Engine block ground cable connections. Remove, clean, reinstall and tighten correctly. 2. Battery connections including both ends of ground cable plus th econnections on the master disconnect switch (if equipped) same procedure as per Step 1 above. 3. Engine ECM ground connections. You will require an electrical schematic. Keep an eye on your messages. 4. Integrity of the CAN+ and CAN- datalink wires inside the engine harness. This information could be useful in understanding what is going on. "When the machine systems are initially powered up, the machine ECM requests the engine power rating from the Engine ECM via the CAN communication network. If the machine ECM does not receive a response, the E459-2 code will become active. In this situation, Cat ET will also not be able to connect to the engine ECM. This scenario is the most common occurrence of the E459-2"
