Cat 308e Exhaust Problems

eamon ยท 2014-02-22 12:37

On Cat 308e dash 2 they have exhaust cleaner, some gas recirculating thingy(standard CAT fit), and we are having problems with them not running correctly or wires or sensors faults. Anyone else out there had any problems??

Have not had any problems yet, it only has 15 hrs on it. I read your question this morning and had a letter in the mail about a recall. Refers to a service letter dated 30 January 2014. Call your local Cat dealer and give them your serial number and see if this applies to you. It mentions regeneration issues.

Been sat in cat dealers yard for 2 weeks, still no nearer to solving issue. done 84 hrs and dealer been out to site 4 times. Been told if no solution then new excavator on Wednesday next week. can you post your letter as we have received nothing. another 308e we have done about 200 hrs has started with the same warning. thanks.

Cat tech just left. He reflashed 3 ECM's. Refer to PI32292. Your cat dealer should have this information available to them. It gives 3 part numbers for the software updates.

any chance of posting that update?? 3rd week in dealers yard and still don't know if the problem is solved, or what has caused it. On the bright side the others operators have said brilliant machine, and their dash warning that came up when off after 5 min so hopefully happy days.

Only dealers have access to updates. The dealer tech will have told our friend in the US the program reference number (PI 32292) when he upgraded the machine on the job site and that should be all that your dealer needs to locate the relevant document in order to see whether or not it applies to your particular machine Serial Number. Be aware it may not apply because the 2 machines might be different Serial Number prefixes (there are 8 different S/N prefixes just for 308E) or the upgrade may only apply to a certain range of Serial Numbers and your machine is outside that range. From the comments above it seems like a software upgrade. Either way the dealer should be able to look up PI32292 in about 60 seconds.............

Hi Nige, i suppose i should of said to post the letter BigBob received regarding recall. If just a software update then whats taking so long?

Sorry, my fault. Misunderstood you. I have looked at every possible S/N prefix of 308E in the system from today's date back to January 2013 and I can find nothing referring to a software upgrade apart from one to the Product Link system, but that's nothing to do with your issue. To me it's strange that a software upgrade that's the subject of a PIP has not been announced as "general information" in a Service Magazine that anyone can look at.

I saw no reason to post the letter since I gave you the proper reference date and later the PI #. My machine prefix is TMX and it is a 308E2 CR and it seemed to cover all serial #'s from 000 up. Mine was manufactured for the US market meeting Tier 4, This may be a different spec than the UK. Show the number to your dealer and have them research if it applies to your situation. There is nothing you can fix, it must be done by a cat tech using a laptop with access to the internet, I have not experienced any issues with the machine, it only got used 19 hrs before shutting down for winter. I had to extract it from a 3' snowpack with a morning low of -6 F that AM. From what the tech said, the DPF was not getting hot enough to burn off the soot build up,
