Cat 315L Weak Travel on Right track

A family member has a 1995 Cat 315 excavator for his hobby farm. Its in decent shape for its age. The undercarriage must have been done not long ago and all the boom pins are in good condition and the buckets have lots of life in them it has just over 11000 hours on it. Its a model # 315L serial # 6YM00473. The right track is weaker when turning and maybe a bit slower travelling. It works fine in revers so I doubt its the travel motor. Is there an adjustment somewhere? I'm not sure where to start.

First place to start IMHO would be to remove the case drain lines from each travel motor in turn and compare the "leakage" that's coming back through the motor case for both sides. To get any info (if it exists) on what the spec ought to be will require a Serial Number. The attached shows the test procedure but the numbers quoted may not be correct for the particular machine you are working on. Another important question related to this is - Are any other functions on the machine also slow.? In a case where there is a 2-section hydraulic pump for the implements usually one section supplies one track and the other section supplies the other. After that each section of the pump will supply a specific hydraulic fiunction such as boom hoist, stick, bucket, etc. The comparison between the speed of the two tracks is easy to make, the implements not so much.

I had similar symptoms on my 315c last year. We found the problem to be in the travel control pilot valve under the floor of the cab.

Good day Most machine have a straight travel valve, dead ending the arm while traveling see if the machine straightens out, can give indication as to what may be causing the issue. Kind regards Uffex

A track function that is slower in one direction than the other generally indicates a swivel leakage issue. Generally one would make sure of the cheap and easy fixes before spilling oil and buying parts. Lift up the floor mat and clean the accumulated dirt from the floor of the cab and then check the travel range of the floor mounted pedals before you do anything else. Next item I might do is to confirm the problem by performing cycle times on each function. After confirming the problem, I would likely remove the swivel and repack it. Your serial number indicates the machine is a 1995 model so you are likely to have many different problems all happening at the same time inside that hydraulic system.

Thanks for all the replies. The swivel was my first guess as well. I will go there today and have a look under the floor mat. Terry
