Cat 320l pressurizing hydraulic tank after oil change

serial number 9kk02063 Drained hydraulic oil in tank and tube and refilled. Removed air vent plug on pump until oil came out. The book says after pump filled with oil replace vent plug and start engine. With engine at low idle, fully raise boom and hold in this position. The book then says to stop the engine and slowly lower the boom until the bucket is on the ground this pressurized the hydraulic tank. then book says to slowly loosen the vent plug several turns until oil flows out. This is a indication that the air has been released from the pump. My question is when you raise the boom and hold in the position and stop engine I can not lower the boom with engine stopped. Am I missing something. Thanks

So you have key on, engine off, safety lever engaged and the boom won't lower, correct? In that case your pilot accumulator is probably faulty. If it is original, you may find it doesn't have a valve for checking the pressure, and if it does, you'll probably find the accumulator is leaking anyway. The part number for the new one is 2278807. It does have a valve and will have to be charged with dry nitrogen.

VCmark I raised boom and killed engine. Cut key back on safety lever engaged and it would not lower. Tried with safety disengaged no difference. Cranked machine and extended stick also. Killed machined and cut key on and safety engaged would not lower. Attached is picture of accumulator and does have port for checking pressure.

Sounds to me like the air is already purged from the pump.

We got oil out of vent plug when filled tank to upper level line on level indicator. Cranked machine and slowly raised boom and level came down midway on indicator. Cracked vent line and no oil came out filled back to upper mark and oil came out.
