Cat 336 safety shutoff

CDNDIESELMONKEY ยท 2018-02-27 10:18

Good morning. We have several excavators missing the yellow hydraulic lock indicator lever. The dealer parts guys say that we have to order the whole valve. Does anyone know if just the yellow indicator is available? Thanks!

You didn't give a Serial Number so I took a 336D at random. Below is the control lever group. Certain parts of the assembly are serviceable but it appears as though the lever itself is not.

eBay has one for $200...Better than the OEM $361

Would it be feasible to fabricate one out of something like 1/2 inch thick Plexiglas or something else? Might be worth it to buy one and then use that as a pattern unless company rules would frown on something like that saying it would violate safety rules. Hard to be sure looking at a picture but does not seem that complicated.

What about using a plow corner marker?

Thanks for the responses! Yes we made one. Seemed too expensive for a piece that's just a marker. I used a bit of wood and some red heat shrink. Not perfect but it works.

It's better than no lever and looks pretty good too!

I've seen short pieces of hydraulic hose used for that. Operators getting up and trying to get out of the cab without putting the lever down is how those usually get broke. That looks a whole lot clear though. Nice work!
