Cat 416 c backhoe

went to check oil on my new purchase 1990 416 c and the oil stick length has been tampered with by means of a tie wrap for how far the dip stick goes into the oil . my stick inserts approx 8.75 inches into the tube Checked a similar machine and it went in approx 10 inches i can buy new one but am just curious if anyone may have a clue for me......I assumed that it would be a standard length for those few years thanks
