Does anybody know why my Extend a Hoe keep creeping out over a couple days? PM me to trade manuals
With your backhoe in the stored position, the weight of the dipper stick and the bucket its constantly pulling on the extendahoe cylinder. Most of these machines will creap down in time. The older the seals, the more creap you will get. I wouldn't worry about it until it starts leaking oil out side the cylinder. When you replace the seals you should do them all and it will be like new again.
I guess it just depends on where it's creeping to? Not the local fuel pump we hope! :drinkup Yes, mine does the same over a few days - getting old like me.
All of mine (416Bs, 416Cit, 426Cits) have all had that malady. Generally, the bolt holding the piston on the cylinder rod is working loose. Disassemble, inspect, overtighten with Loctite, and reassemble the cylinder. Left unchecked, you will damage the cylinder rod. Caught early, you may not even need a new seal kit. Expecting it to occur on my 420E's, but it hasn't happened yet. BTW, all of my Cat extenda-hoes have a pin, supplied when new, to pin the extenda-hoe in the retracted position.
Could you be a little more specific on witch bolt you mean. Its a very tight machine and i don't feel the creep is due to age. Cylinder rod??? Thanks in advance Heymccall
"the bolt holding the piston on the cylinder rod is working loose. Disassemble, inspect, overtighten with Loctite, and reassemble the cylinder" inside the cylinder, the loosening is causing the internal fluid leak that allows the cylinder to creep. Very valuable advice, good to know when it's urgent, and when it's just normal aging.
do you mean #2 420D Backhoe Loader, Powered By 3054 Engine Media Number - SEBP3203-45 | Publication Date - 01/11/2009 | Date Updated - 04/11/2009 i01445872 164-7174 CYLINDER GP-EXTENDABLE STICK S/N FDP1-7198 76.2MM BORE X 1067MM STROKE PART OF 155-6586 CYLINDER GP-EXTENDABLE STICK AN ATTACHMENT
Yup, number 2. Left unchecked, the bolt head will contact the butt end of the barrel, and destroy the threads in the chrome rod. It is a very simple cylinder to disassemble, and inspect, but removing the cylinder, now that's a PITA. especially without a crane. When everything is in working order, the extendahoe will remain retracted for months on end, if not years, even without the lock pin.
Not sure if CATs are the same, but I've had several JCBs with leaking circuit relief valves on the control valve. Either a damaged seat or o-ring I imagine they would have circuit reliefs, please correct me if they don't May be easier to pull and check that before you pull the cylinder
