Cat 426 Front Bucket Will Not Raise Up

Rocket Man ยท 2021-11-02 12:23

Ok, recall i have had problems with the tilt cylinder, which i fixed already and had a vibration in bucket lift, which i fixed. Now i have a big problem in that the front bucket will only raise above 3 feet high when loaded and will only do that by using the TILT function. So when bucket is full and i pull the handle to raise it normally, i just get a weird noise. However if i use the tilt function and fully tilted back and pull the handle to the raise position the bucket will raise about 3 feet when loaded. It is almost like the fluid is by passing the check valve somehow?? Again, when bucket is NOT loaded it will raise as it should. I have already replaced the primary resolvers and have the secondary ones to install when i get the time. So, question is, what makes the bucket not raise and could it be the secondary resolvers?

I got the problem solved and i am posting the cause of that bucket not raising for all those after me that will experience this problem. It was the secondary resolvers for the lift AND tilt functions. I just finished the job and it took about 2 hours to do. The hardest part is getting that big ole right rear tire off BC it weighs a ton and not well balanced at all. Anyway, you need to remove right rear tire and right in front of the axel on the frame there are 4 round holes about 5/8 inch in diameter. Best to scrape all the dirt and grease off where the resolver are and then spray those places with brake cleaner cause it is caked over with dirt and rust and grease. The fittings on mine were the slotted type and had to be removed with a large head screwdriver. FIRST, it is advisable to take a cold chisel and hit the resolver a couple of licks to help break it loose, whether it is slotted or allen head. Also worthy of note that there are 3 resolvers there even though i only have the tilt and lift functions. I do not know why there are 3. Maybe someone out there can answer that question. The new ones i put back had the allen head design. You have to be careful as there is a tiny steel ball back there that will roll out and easily lost. Then just keep that ball in and tighten it up and you are done. Here are the ones that came out of mine. Notice that there are no O rings on the end where they should be. ALL of them were missing and i can only guess they were dissolved due to the heat etc and absorbed into the filter.

those resolvers blow the o rings and then wont work the function unless you work another function witch causes the pump to come on stroke

Yes, i found that out. I replaced all the ones for bucket and tilt. Today i was replacing the secondary ones for the backhoe, stabilizers and stick. All of which were missing the o rings or were only part there, as in part of the ring was missing. Next i will replace the primary ones which are a little harder to do.
