I need to rebuild the engine on this CAT 924K….are there aftermarket options or just OEM The crank is bad and two connecting rods
I can’t say whether OEM or aftermarket would be more easily available for your C6.6 engine but my suggestion would be to get hold of a Parts Manual. This would allow you to search for parts online by Part Number. Cat might have Reman options available for both the crank and the rods that could be advantageous to you.
The Caterpillar Publication reference for the Parts Manual is SEBP5135. You can get one from HERE
When rebuilding the engine of your CAT 924K loader C6.6 engine, you have both aftermarket and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) options to consider. OEM parts are manufactured by Caterpillar themselves and are designed to meet their specifications. They are known for their quality and compatibility. On the other hand, aftermarket parts are produced by third-party manufacturers like Tonkee Parts. While they can be more cost-effective, the quality and compatibility may vary. Tonkee Parts, offers aftermarket parts for Caterpillar equipment, which can be a good option if you're looking to save on costs. Ultimately, the choice between OEM and aftermarket parts depends on your budget, preferences, and the specific components you need to replace during the engine rebuild. It's essential to ensure that whichever parts you choose meet the necessary quality and safety standards for your machine.
Thanks Nige, I am quoting them thru cat right now. We will see what price they come up with
