Hey There. We have a CAT 928f loader with a 3116 engine that is running very low on power and doesn't want to rev freely. We've changed the fuel filters and blown out the lines, verified the fuel pressure after the filter at 35-50psi. After we've had it in the shop it will run fine for 5-10 minutes before returning to the low power state. Always starts but often blows lots of white smoke on startup. Sometimes has a bad knock for a couple seconds on startup. Would appreciate advice on what to check next.
Machine serial # (last 8)? How many hours on the machine? Oil level good? Is it making oil? Burning oil? What shape are your fuel lines in? Could they be starting to come apart on the inside? Bottom of the fuel tank clean? Creates a lot of suction. You could have something leaving the pick up. But then makes it way back and start to starve it of fuel. The knocking concerns me more about too much fuel from bad Injector but that’s where you would see it possibly making oil.
Serial Number: 2XL01625 15000hrs Oil level good, not using or making oil. Fuel lines old but not crusty, fuel tank has been drained from the bottom several times and pickup blown through. Cylinder 1,2,3 exhaust ports cold, 4,5,6 exhaust ports hot. Fuel return line pressurising fuel tank. I've heard that the brass seals on the injector tips can allow compression into fuel passage and cause these symptoms - is that plausible?
