HI All I have a 938H S/N MJC00121, with an electrical problem. When the key is turned to the start position it blows the fuse for the key switch. Thought the starter solinoid was bad so the starter was replaced being the solinoid is not sold seperately. The problem is still there even with the new starter. If the key is turned to the start position with the solinoid wire disconnected from the starter the fuse does not blow but if the wire is touched to the solinoid terminal with the key in the start position it blows instantly. If the key is left on and the starter is jumped accross the battery and start terminals the machine starts right up. Is there anything else that could be connected with the start terminal causing more of a draw in amps? Maybe something like a glow plug relay or something? Volt meter shows 24.6 volts at the wire for the start terminal as long as it's not hooked to the starter. Any thoughts or direction is appreciated. Al
Found the problem.
Well?
We are interested in yoir fix. Could you share it with us?
Sorry/ The small solenoid that is on the starter was bad and was causing the problem. I was told by the starter rebuilder that the small solenoid was not needed. If it's eliminated the fuse for the key switch is too small to go directly to the starter. I replaced the small solenoid and it works fine now.
Glad you got it fixed. Thanks for sharing.
You need to find a different rebuilder.
The rebuilder I used for many years retired. Trying to find a good one but not having much luck. One does not work on anything for Caterpillar, another says they can't get parts but can get a new one. Not many around here.
