my 941 is getting up near the red after 3 hrs of working in this 90+ degree weather. should i be concerned with it at this point or only if it gets to the red. i havent ran it none once it gets past this point i shut it off. it is 941 but has engine from 951b and think i have read that the 951b had overheating problems.

First thought is - how accurate is the gauge..? The best method is to shoot the temperature of the top & bottom radiator hoses with an infra-red heat gun to be certain. Also worthwhile checking, in no particular order - condition of fan belts, pulleys, fan spider, radiator. It might pay you to pressure wash the radiator as well. If the temp goes up close to the red the best thing is to run the engine at medium RPM with the transmission in neutral to ensure everything cools down evenly rather than simply shutting it off.

i checked it with my infared and the water checks around 180-185 and the radiator outlet neck was 205. gonna get a mercury thermometer and check aswell

My old rule of thumb for diesels was as long as it was under 250 and not venting steam or coolant, it wasn't in danger. Others may disagree with me, vociferously.

My 977L did the same thing, the fix was a simple pressure test of the radiator cap. A new cap (tested out of the box at the parts store, 2 were NG) fixed the problem.

Good point. that needs to be included in the list of "things to check" from post #2 above.

Also need to remember our machines blow from in to out not like cars, my old Allis had (has) oil leaks, oil built up on the radiator fins and tubes essentially fouling it with accumulated dirt in the oil, a quick wash down from out to in made a mess but removed a great deal of fouling and temps cooled some.
