Cat 943 track adjustment

Dylan Smith ยท 2020-05-30 16:17

I recently purchased a Cat 943. The track adjuster is maxed out but i have to much slack in the track still. The owners manual says there is a secondary track idler position to remedy this but says to refer to service manual which i dont have. How do i adjust the track idler to the secondary position. Thanks in advance.

You can unbolt the lower pivot that the idler pivots on and move it forward if it isnt already but in all truth it is time for a set of rails of it's that far out at least in my eyes.

Welcome to the Forums Dylan Smith? Post some pics of your undercarriage including the idler and post your machines serial number.

This machine has 2294 original hours so I dont think the rails or undercarriage is shot yet.

The pitch on the chain is 6 735 inches measure over several links that will tell you if there spent. The photos I attached will show you what to advance forward. Not to be a negative fellow bit I'd bet the loaders meter has been replaced or roller over at least once

The story on the loader is a Doctor in Texas bought it new for his farm, then a local older gentleman purchased for his farm and passed away and loader set for several years. Hours may not be true but for overall condition and purchase price im not to concerned. Im not to clear on what to do looking at the images you sent.. (my first track loader) Do i take the 3 bolts inside and out on lower pivot and roll back till holes align again or move the hole assembly forward on the rails?

You need to take 6 bolts out of the bracket then move it forward and use the other set of hole to bolt it back on.

Ok. I really appreciate the info. I will let you know how it goes.

That is a very nice looking 943 - don't see them in that nice of shape anymore. Just judging from the pics but your rails and front idler look to have a lot of life left in them. The hour meter may be true judging from the overall condition of the loader.

Thank you. It is a clean older machine!

It is a very nice looking machine I wander if the hours are true if they could have been new with dry pins this explaining the need for the extra adjustment.

Tyler. What will be the best thing to use to get enough leverage to move the idler assembly?

Back the adjustment off and take the bolts out of the the idler brackets and I'd think you could pull it with a come along some how to get it done

    Ok. Thanks again!

Don't care of Visual Determinations of rails, measure the track spread according to Service manual directions, over .110 of Pin to Bushing wear and these rails are essentially done regardless the hours. Have a set of Allis rails bushings look Great externally, snake like a bad Cottonmouth and roll off in a heartbeat. If the idler needs a reposition then you are looking at Excessive wear internally and needs rails. Can armchair quarterback all you wish, does NOT change actualities.
