Cat 953 fuel leak

OK, Just put new head on 3204 engine after blowing a head gasket. Injectors were bad/marginal too so new injectors installed. Bought a full new gasket set so new o rings and gaskets everywhere. Got everything back together and started engine up. It started and ran fine (no black/white smoke. idled smooth). However we had a fuel leak at the front of the engine (3/4 cylinder) on the turbo side. Leaking on outside of engine right at the rubber gasket from the head to valve cover. No fuel in oil. We suspect the fuel line adaptors (?) that go thru the cover may be leaking into the gasket - they have a hole in the adapter between the two o-rings and it seems that if they leaked there it would push fuel out the gasket rather than into the engine. couldn't find much on these adapters in the maintenance manual but they appear as if they may operate to limit pressure or something. We haven't dug into this much yet as we had to stop as soon as we found the leak. Any info/thoughts appreciated.

Retorque the fuel line nuts. 30 ft lbs I believe. Bob

We'll give that a shot Bob. THX. Anyone know if those 'adapters' have any functional purpose (other than simply getting fuel from feed lines thru valve cover to the injectors)? They are not just open thru them and seem to have a hole in the side of them in between the two o-rings that go on them. I did a quick search but didn't find much about them on internet or maintenance manual. Wondering if one could be 'faulty' or clogged or something.

    ^This is all they do

Those holes and galleries are there to divert fuel away if there is a leak at the injection line tapered seat. Nothing more.

Excellent. Thx Guys. Won't get out to the farm to work this until Wed or Thurs. Can't seem to get my open time in line with the breaks in all this rain!

My kid had a chance to re torq the fuel lines yesterday. No more leak. Runs nice and smooth. BTW, head was from a 3208. Completely remaned - new valves, sets, and milled face. About $650. All in all this blown head gasket ran us about $1000 in parts with new head, new injectors, and gasket kit. Nice to have it up and running again!
