Striped down a old 55,brake bands/oil cooled, put it back together, wont steer..... Brake works, clutchs dont let go... Now ive opened the filter housings filled with a bit of oil, what i could? Had the adjustment rods set to what i think was factory set, everthing seemed to do what it should, other than, i think the system dont seem to suck oil? Worked before?, all new o-rings evry were, new oil/filters, the book i have dont cover any topic of, bleeding/priming? It does have a small plug on the suction side??? Ive never ran in to this with hydralics, kinda. The adjustment did change on the pedals, once it ran...? From dry to oily again? Its got me beat at the moment! Any help would be great thanks!

Your screen streaner near the oil filter should be pluged he has a round cover with 6 screw.

thanks for the tip, but....due to the nature of this project... all that has been, re an re, improper adjustment destroyed the bands and pluged the system wouldnt steer, clutchs are good, who ever had it didnt set the clutches to the brakes, which i replaced, the stainless screen you speak of,is on the suction side of the system, from the sump, to the pump, the paper is on the return side, then to the booster. im leaning to think the pump is beat.... with all the filings and such threw it... but you would think it would do som thing, at least fill the system with oil, at first start, it did not pic up the oil, then i filled both hfilter housings and what i could down the pipe, to the pump... tryed again.. no change?

Maybe you have a hose pluged some were and check the tube from stering cluch housing and go to thestreaner screen or you have some air in line check your stering cluch filter breather if hi is not pluged

Check the rubber suction hose under the seat, you will have to hang your head upside down to see it. If it's collapsed or has a hole you can yank on the steering levers till the cows come home and they won't budge, loosing booster pressure for steering. If thats it boy will you be dirty fixing it! lol

RESOLVED gear pump in the booster system wouldnt take its prime.... repaired a gasket on the lower case, used the breather hole to plumb some shop air. pluged the dip stick tube. started up an run, aplyed air. good to go. works excellent.
