What was the reason why you changed the old ECM and was the replacement ECM that you installed taken from another engine or was it a brand-new one..? An engine Serial Number is always good in these cases ...........

Definitely need some more deets. S/N, what model of machine or truck its in etc. When it left the shop after the ECM was replaced, was it blowing white smoke? Or did that happen after it was back working? What was the reason for the ECM replacement? Was it new? Used? Test ECM? What do you mean by RPM 10 to 20? Was there any other recent work completed on the engine?

Agree on the confusion about the RPM. If I was to guess maybe the tach only has 1 or 2 digits and has X100 on the face. So 10 X 100 = 1,000 20 X 100= 2,000. If that is the case then it really means it is "white smoking" anything above low idle or when running at high idle, so just about all the time?
