CAT Comm adapter for ET

andrew80 · 2013-04-05 09:28

Hello Guys I was looking with website: http://www.nexiq.com/node/3 ´cuz I want an adapter. Dont know if it will work for CAT motor graders. can you give me some recommendations? Basically, Finning guys take forever to come (2-3 weeks) and way too expensive (compare with Komatsu and Case). Also I asked them for the SIS dvds and dont sell them, just the web access and is quite expensive.

You've got a lot of Cat equipment juding by all the different machines you have posted problems about on here. Suck it up and buy a genuine ET Comms adapter plus the licence to use it. When you add up all the costs of all the service calls you've made over the past year and the cost of lost time on your machines waiting for the dealer to show up it is a cheap investment. The same applies to the cost SIS-WEB access. Maybe share the cost with some other Cat users in your area..?

I was thinking something for me. I`m just an employee, don't own any machine. That´s what I was looking for the ET adapter and also SIS dvds

SIS is no longer available on CD/DVD AFAIK. Haven't seen that format in maybe 5 years or more. It's all on-line now. Can you not persuade your employer to fork out for a copy..? To justify it try this: - 1. Find out the price of the Comms Adapter and the ET Annual licence. 2. Look at how many service calls you've had over the past 1 year that needed ET and then take the total time where you waited for the dealer to come out with his laptop & ET and make a diagnosis for you each time. Don't include repair time, just the time you were waiting for the dealer because you didn't have the diagnositc capability. 3. Calculate how much income the affected machines would have generated if they had run for that length of time. 4. If the purchase price of the equipment is less than the loss of income due to machine being stopped waiting for a dealer to come and diagnose them you have a 100% solid case for buying the necessary items. Also remember that the Comms Adapter is only a one-time purchase but the Licence however has to be renewed yearly. So if you can justify it initially then the justification for the cost of the annual ET licence renewal should be even easier.

from my previous search the nexiq is not worth the money for you and it won't connect to the offroad (built just for truck engine diagnostics) connector in your machine, actually it will connect but you have to modify it. besides if all worked at that point you could only talk to the engine at that point and none of the other ecm's in the machine....thats my two bits..............theironoracle
