Cat D3 Injector replacement

CATD3 · 2012-11-25 15:22

I need to replace the injectors on a 3204 Cat Diesel straight 4 cyllinder. I removed the fuel lines and the valve cover exposing the injectors. Do the injectors pull right out? These injectors are the pencil type with the 2" fuel line attached at the top(4w7015). Some posts say to pull the rocker arm assembly but I don't see the need to, is it necessary? Does this injector have a retaining nut or some clip? Won't pulling the rocker arm require the valves to be reset? This all seems like quite a lot of work to replace injectors. Can anyone help? PLEASE

Rocker arms can stay in place. Just remove the bolt and hold down clamp and pull it out. It will be carboned in place so it takes some pulling and working to get it out. A lady slipper under the clamp works. Clean the bore and install a new washer and carbon seal on the tip, lube it and push it back in and snug up the tube before tightening the hold down bolt.

If it's a 5/16" 12-point head bolt - 18.3 ± 4 lb ft. There is no specific torque spec for the injector hold-down bolts, it's just the standard for 12pt 5/16 bolt.
