Cat D3 replace engine

Hey Guys, Havent been on here in a while, but needing some info on installing an engine in a 1979 (?) Cat D3. What is the procedure to maintain and ensure alignment on the torque convertor gears to flywheel when there is no way to see them when installing engine back to dozer? Engine mated to trans fairly smoothly and pulled up within about 1/8" to the bellhousing without much effort. In my mind though, I am just not sure that the gears meshed together at the flywheel. Any way to determine and ensure that gears correctly mated? Thanks for any info.

Mine slid right in without issue. If it mates up to the bell housing it should be good to go

If you are pulled up that far you are good if it was not lined up it would 3/4 of a inch away or so
