Hi, Looking to install block heater on old D3B dozer for use in heavy snow conditions. Can anyone confirm that photos show water port and if not where is access? Also, any idea which heater works with this model? Thanks! Joe
http://www.showmetheparts.com/phillipstemroapplications/ CAT 3204 says "replaces back freeze plug on the right side of the engine" That looks like a fuel pump mounting hole to me.
Instruction for installing a JWH does not show an illustration but does specify the location as Delmer mentioned above. It does state to remove a core plug though.
The phillipstemro/ zerostart heater is 600W, while the CAT is 750W, not that you'd notice the difference most of the time but there's at least one difference. We won't get into the "freeze plug" vs "core plug" debate
The core plug plugs up the holes in the casting that were used to get the sand cores out of the passages in the block. Simples......
When my 3204 engine was rebuilt a complete new block heater was put in because the heater and cord were 1 piece and had to be taken apart/destroyed to remove. When having an engine rebuilt a new block heater is a minor expense. May want to check if a replacement cord is available for the block heater you choose.
