cat d4d track adjuster

Hi all this might have been covered already somewhere but here goes the track adjuster keeps losing its grease so me question is how hard is it to replace the seal, are there any short cuts in doing it. I have removed the cover to reveal the coil spring and from what i can see the adjuster cylinder is inside the coil spring, at the bottom end of the spring is a threaded rod with a nut on it this is (the nut) about 2 inches away from the spring, does the cylinder just pull out of the coil spring. Dozer is a 1974 model. What dangers am i going to encounter if any. The excavators that i have done them on the adjuster cylinders have just unbolted from the undercarriage when the idler wheels where pulled out. Any help is good help. Thanks in advance.

Just remove the one half arm to the idler wheel and the adjuster will slide right out of the spring. It´s not bolted in any way. Check this out some pics:

Thanks Iceflyer can it be done with the track still on or do i have to split the track also does the cylinder with the piston still in it come out or just the piston come out leaving the cylinder still in the spring,i know it will probably become apparent when i start on it but knowing before hand is better. Cheers.
