Cat d6c 10k final drive support seal

keith-50 ยท 2020-11-26 21:01

I was going to adjust final drive bearings with spanner wrench and noticed spring wire coming from support assembly on left final drive seal. Removed outer support assembly. Service manual mentions seal and Bearing in outer support assembly. Found portion of seal but no bearing. Is bearing mentioned in service manual really a bushing?

Just a plain bush bearing. Could be this part. https://avspare.com/caterpillar/bushing/5m6637/

It's a fiber band that is greased by the fitting on the cover. Bob

It's not fiber. It looks like a giant cam bearing if you know what one of those look like. 5M6637 is the correct part number. 4S6752 is the seal that goes in the housing with the bushing. That's probably where the spring came from as there is one in the seal.

best way is to press them in with a shop press but I have used a piece of heavy plate steel and a heavy hammer don't hit the bushing directly except to get it started

Can you get dry ice locally.? Shrunk a touch they should require little in the way of force to get them in.
