Need to replace te oil pan on my Cat D7E Dozer. The serial No. is 48A1414. Question is... Will the two piece pan from a Cat D7E after Serial No. 48A2642 fit? It looks like it will...just want to be sure.
I can't tell you from direct experience but both are covered in the Service Manual as interchangeable. Appears the engine needs to be pulled to remove the one piece unit and the two piece can be removed in place. The one piece is noted as 200# weight, the front half of the two piece approx 150#. Nasty task.
Can't tell you for sure if they are interchangable either but my guess is that they are. Seems to be an after the fact engineering change to make it possible to remove the pan without removing the engine. Great idea for an improvement as I have pulled the pan on 339 engines in D7E's with the two piece pan. It is still not a nice job mind you but can be done. When doing it, it is a real bear to make sure the gaskets line up and stay in place. Attach them to the pan with adhesive when you put them on.
