Hello there, I am trying to evaluate a D7R-II that we have received . I have also received a computer download from the machine. It indicates machine has done 15,605 total hours On the shot of a page attached it also says Logged diagnostic code 9721 hours What does this mean? Is there a reference book available to assist interpretation of the whole download? My second question relates to the fuel injection codes/ out put. Seems a huge variation here if that relates to injector output. thanks for your help, cheers Michael.
Double post.
Either post up the complete Product Status Report as a pdf attachment or send it to me on a PM. There's not enough info on the screen shot to determine a great deal. The diagnostic clock for the engine ECM has 9721 hours. Could be different to the 15,605 machine hours because of an ECM change or even a complete engine change. The fact the directly below the DC reading the phrase "No Logged Diagnostic Codes" appears means there are no historic DC registered in that particular ECM. Possibly because it was wiped before the machine was sold. (We used to wipe ECM memory every 2k service so that we knew whatever was registered in the way of Codes had occured since the last major service.) Sorry there isn't a manual to help in interpretation. Most of it is pretty obvious. Those Codes are a type of "fine tuning" to ensure that each injector gives exactly the same fuel output. The Code is assigned by the factory when the injector is manufactured and is etched on the top of the poppet.
Thanks Nige, I have added the complete file below. Id be very interested in your thoughts on any aspect of this report. Machine was originally delivered by cat dealer in France but there are no records apart from annual reports on PEPs etc.
OK, I'll have a look and get back to you tomorrow. T'is about bed time here.......
Thanks mate.
That would be normal. Unless a dealer did all the servicing and/or repairs on the tractor there would be no record of them in the dealer system. Question: Did you buy this tractor from a Cat dealer or through other channels.?
Oh, and check your messages BTW.
Hello Nige, You’ve been very thorough here, thanks for your time. This machine was purchased from a European UE dealer and unfortunately they could offer service no history but have supplied all relevant Cat dealer info-attached. I chased it up through a contact with French Cat dealer B-M but they only have a bit of info, but it was useful in that it confirmed the hours, see attachment. Unusually the hours went from 8244 hours in Nov 2019 (based on Cat dealer records) to 15605 in 14 March 2022 when our contract mechanic did an inspection for us (attached) Assuming it was at the dealer for say2/ 3 months for transport, cleaning and painting and selling that’s a lot of hours clocked up in 2 years, - 7,361 That would need to be double shifts every day. I’m thinking something is not right here, what do you think? I also should note the engine is very crisp, no blowby, no rattles no smoke, doesn't get hot, has lots of power and sounds really nice. Transmission is very responsive too. Other answers to your email. We do not use Product link and we do not have an ET for downloading information. We are quite a way from a dealer but we could arrange to have one call in if required. Happy to do some research on Product link and see what’s useful for us. As mentioned above the engine and transmission feel too good to be at these hours, maybe they have been overhauled or maybe the overall hours are not accurate. Engine serial number is same as when fitted, see attached. Thanks again for your help, Kind regards Michael.
Yes, but that is based on only one data entry. The previous one in the SIMS records was July 2009 @ 2853 hours. So I would strongly suspect bad data, you'll note that there was no warranty claim attached to the 2019 WO referred to in SIMS. If the dealer had more than one tractor in their rental fleet it could even be the SIMS entry was made under the wrong tractor Serial Number. Working 24/7 our track dozers regulary clocked 7000 hours/year - just saying. Single shifting 12hrs/day 7k hours in three years is perfectly possible, but as above I still suspect dud data. The reason the tractor has Product Link is because it was originally sold to go on to a dealer rental fleet, so PL would be pretty much mandatory under those circumstances for the dealer to keep an eye on what was going on while the machine was on site. For your operation I guess it all depends on where the tractor will be working and even whether there is adequate satellite/cell coverage that would enable diagnostics to be accessed remotely. All I can suggest is to look into it and see whether or not it would benefit you. Remember it will come with a possibly hefty cost, no idea what that would be.
Thanks Nige, The machine is very good for hours, possibly as it spent a lot of hours warming or cooling the operator and not doing much else. So will see how it goes on the job and if any demons appear in working environment. Your assistance is much appreciated. Cheers Michael.
