Cat IT 28 Loader altenator help

Hello all, Im having an issue with the charging system on Cat IT 28 loader. The operator ran it last week not noticing till the end of the day that the alternator light flashing on the dash an killed both batteries. The batteries and alternator have all been replaced but there is still a no charge situation with the loader. Ive performed a voltage drop test on the batt + wire and have run a new ground from the alternator to eliminate a bad ground possibility. The only thing that has not been checked/traced is the "R" terminal wire. From what I understand this is a wire that is tied into the hour meter on the loader and also provides the signal to turn the alternator on with ign. on. Is this wire 24V or is it 12V supply? The spaghetti of wires under the dash panel is disgusting and Im wondering if someone has come across this before. Thx for any and all help!

Usually, the "R" terminal is for the tachometer. Sometimes also labeled "W". Should have an "AC" voltage from there, I believe. Usually about 7 volts AC. This does not "excite" the alt to start charging.
