Cat nomenclature tag

I recently took over a mining claim that has among other things on it an old D-6, Cat. It is a cable operated unit. I would like to try to figure the age of this thing. Is there some id plate located on it that will help me? Thanks

    Yes but not sure where.Most will be close to operators station.Probably be a aluminum plate.

    You can also check the engine, there is small possibility that it will still have a data plate with s/n also. JCS

    Most all Cat and Komatsu dozers, old and new have the serial number stamped into rear frame. It is top/left corner.

    Look below the fuel tank and to the left.... depending on how old it is. Must be a 9u series... the D6B series had it riveted to the toe plate ahead of the operator.
