Can anyone explain what the serial numbers for Caterpillar's D6 tractors will tell me about the tractor? From the serial number can I tell if it is a rebuild? What do the prefixes mean?
The prefix on a Certified Rebuild won't change and they don't mean anything other than to differentiate from another prefix. The Certified Rebuilt tractor serial numbers should start with a 75000 serial number, or at least the D8K's that I've been around had that as the SN, like 77v75121. The D8K's in original production only went up to 77V21649 according to the internet.
