My Caterpillar 420 F2 serial #Hwd00828 has a code 97-3X. Any ideas what this code means?
Water in the fuel. Try draining the bowl below the water separator as a start. If you find water I would also suggest finding the tank drain valve and open that to check what might be there. If all that gives zero result here is a test procedure for the electronics.
