Caterpillar D8K Spacer Plate Engine

What Serial Number begins the use of the spacer plate engines? Thanks, Bob

    I'm lacking the parts books to prove it but knowing they did not start with the spacer plate, the next series parts book would be for the 77V5006 to last built tractor with engine 17S5088 up. The year would be 1976. That's my best guess, hopefully someone can verify.

    The announcement of the introduction of the 7N-3035 spacer plate block was made on 29/08/1977 in Service Mag SEBD1727. The new block was said to be "adaptable to all earlier D342 & G342 engines" and "Extra parts are needed for engines that were equipped with the former cylinder block". From what I can see 7N-3035 first became available from engine S/N 17S08944 and a tractor S/N somewhere between 77V8500 & 77V9000.
