So I got a click box to clear some codes and recalibrate a transmission on a D 6 dozer. But it is a little hard to use without manual I'm also needing help on diagnosing some speed sensors.
Let's start with the basics. 1. What model of D6 and a Serial Number if possible. 2. Can you list what Diagnostic Codes you have right now. 3. What calibrations are you trying to do..?
KJL00970 serial number pulled codes of of display we have a click box we just bought but don't know how to use it 113 673.02 585.02 298.02 722.03 70.03 I got those using check button also the only ones that say serv code are 673.02,585.02 and that only happens when you start moving machine
OK, so you have a D6R Series III. Regarding Diagnostic codes, 113 is the Transmission Control In number order your codes are:- CID0070 FMI03 - Parking Brake Switch - Voltage Above Normal CID0298 FMI02 - Service Brake Pedal Switch - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect CID0585 FMI02 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor #1 - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect CID0673 FMI02 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor #2 - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect CID0722 FMI03 - Secondary Brake Solenoid - Voltage Above Normal Three of the five Codes according to you are not Active (aka Logged Codes) therefore with the Click Box you should be able to clear them easily. The Active Codes will have to be fixed and turned into Logged Codes before they can be cleared with the Click Box. The Transmission Speed Sensors #1 & 2 will only give an Active FMI02 Diagnostic Code when the machine is moving. I am thinking for both sensors to go bad at the same timre the most likely cause is wiring harness damage or a bad connection somewhere in a connector to the transmission. A comment on FMI02 - FMI 02 "Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect". Erratic or intermittent data includes all measurements that change at a rate that is not considered possible in the real world condition and must be caused by improper operation of the measuring device or the connection to the ECM / ECU module. Signal data from a component is present, at least intermittently. The signal is either unstable or invalid as recognized by the control doing diagnostics. Data can be correct sometimes and not at other times. Have you identified the location of the connector of the machine to plug in the Click Box..? Plug it in and with the power (ign switch) on move both the Mode & Scroll switches and hold them. You will see on the Mode Number appear on the display something like " - 0 - ". As the Modes go up it will change to - 1 - , etc. 1. Service Mode is Mode #1. Once you see that on the monitor screen let go the switches and return them to neutral. 2. The first Diagnostic Code will appear on the monitor Panel. 3. Press the Clear switch once. The Code will disappear. 4. If the next Diagnostic Code does not appear in the screen press the Scroll switch once and release it. 5. Repeat Steps 3 & 4 as necessary until all the Logged Codes have been cleared. Note: You may find it possible to clear the 585 & 673 Codes when the machine is stationary with the engine stopped but they will come back the next time that the machine moves.
Yes we got it plugged in and got it to go thru the modes but we are just playing with it we don't know what all it is doing also we cleaned out connection on back of transmission there was oil in it but it is still doing it we were afraid us messing with the box messed up some of the calibrations also which other connections should we check
IMHO you won't mess up any calibrations just by disconnecting harness connectors. Every individual calibration is stored in the Powertrain ECM and will not be changed until it is replaced by another valid calibration. So go ahead and pull wiring connectors apart to your heart's content - you won't screw anything up doing that. Let me see if we can rustle up an Electrical Schematic for your machine.
We weren't afraid unplugging connectors we were worried we changed things with the click box
I think that's highly unlikely. Most if not all of the calibrations require the engine to be running for a start. Did you manage to clear the Logged Diagnostic Codes..?
Yes we were able to clear all codes but they showed up in mode 3 not mode one
I didn't check the Service Manual. I thought the Diagnostic Mode was Mode 1 on that machine, my bad. Did you try running the machine afterwards to see whether or not the Codes for the Trans Output Speed Sensors came back..?
We cleared codes ran the machine got the two speed sensor codes back and a code 36 06.05
Also we found the procedure for diagnosing the codes but don't have any wiring data to show us where the sensors are how hard is this to get
MID036 CID0006 FMI05 is from the Engine Control, #6 Injector, Current Below Normal. Is it Active or Logged..? Drop me a PM with your email address. I have a Diagnostic Procedure for the Transmission Output Speed Sensors.
Nige, I'm a little confused. When I enter the KJL00970 in to SIS it shows me as being a D6T track-type tractor with a build date of 13/12/2008 with a C-9 engine S/n THX20867. Not the D6R Series III you mentioned above. I down loaded the schematic for the D6T KJL listed in SIS and it does show the KJL1 and up among the models on the front cove so I will upload that one on the chance it is the one you need. If not I can look for a D6R series III schematic but seems there are many different prefixes. View attachment KENR5131-04.PDF
Ok so I found the short in the harness it was at the connection where the pigtail from the transmission connector to the main harness is. Now that we fixed the short are we going to need to recalibrate or reset anything. Thanks guys for all the help and the diagrams. Oh and how do you PM someone
Ken, KJL00970 is the S/N posted by the OP above in post #3 above. My bad, KJL-prefix covers BOTH the last of the D6R Series III (up to S/N KJL00406) and the first of the D6T. I just picked the wrong model number for the S/N. To the OP. Try operating the machine and see if it throws any Diagnostic Codes up, specifically any that are of the format 113 xxx 13. FMI13 indicates that something needs recalibrating. If you don't see anything like this then IMHO you are good to go. To send a PM to a user on HEF click on their username in the thread and a menu box will appear. Click on "Private Message" (PM) and from there it should be obvious.
Alright happy to report we repaired the wiring issues and all of the transmission codes have Gone away and the machine moves fine now. But I still have that 36 06.05 code we replace the injector with no luck and I have checked ohms from the injector to the ecm and it appears we have no shorts any pointers on this subject
Is the 36.06.05 Code showing as an Active Diagnostic Code (SERV CODE light on)..? The injector solenoid circuit test to find the fault can only be done if the Code is Active. It's a long process so if you want a copy drop me a PM with your email address.
