We have a 70SR Kobelco, it is a great little machine and we have put about 2000 +/- hrs on it, it had 1000 on it when we took delivery. It seems to me like its not as smooth as it was when you are trying to do something really precise. As you feather the controls it wont move then when it does move it jumps a little bit. This is not as noticeable when you are just digging. Would it make a difference to change the hydraulic filters, or is it just me?Thanks for your help!!
most machines have sensors on the filter housings to tell you with an idiot light that you haven't serviced the machine and you are about to screw something up most manufacturers have the tolerances and oils were you need to replace the filters every 500 to 1000 hrs at least on smaller machines i would go with that on the bigger ones to so i would start there and see what happens there only 50 to 100 bucks to replace compared to the repair bill from the shop thats cheap
I think you will find the hydraulic filter should be changed at 500hrs possibly max 1000hrs on your machine, so yes change the filter. I suggest you also check at what hours the hyd oil should be changed. If you dont want to change it try and get a sample tested. None of this may change the problem you are experiencing but the filter will give you a clue to any problems in the system. Ok so Bob types faster than me
there should be a pilot filter.. do you deal through Abele tractor?
Tracey Road Equipment, Thanks for the responses!!!
the hyd filters should be changed along with the engine service every 500 hours. hyd filters; hyd return in tank and the pilot filter is a long coupler fitting with an arrow has a cleanable screen. gear oils 80w-90 every 1000 hrs. hyd oil every 2000-2500 hrs. hyd oil SHELL TELLUS "T" 32. the "T" is key. hvi oil - high viscosity index. mobile equipment hyd oil. most guys use indoor hyd oil and do not even realise that their oil supplier has mislead them. normally because of price. indoor hyd oil could cost you $ 12,000 dollars in repairs on hyd pump, hyd motors, etc... using the proper hyd oil is cheap insurance.... if you give me your serial number the 70sr has certain querks... it could be a bad sensor, or inherent in that model. i have rid this in issue in a 70sr model before at a cost of approx. $ 4k and approx. a week to figure it out.
I've never heard of having the hydraulic fluid tested. Where best can you have that done? Do they give you data like PPM of contamination, or moisture content, or what all? I've typically dumped it and put fresh in if I had any doubt, but it might save some time and money to know when it needed it versus just doing it "in case". nedly05 - what ended up working?
hydraulic fluid can be tested at such companies like Wear Check, or even at Cat's SOS program. the oil sample is best taken as a live zone sample with their clean, sterilized sample bottle. live zone; chances are your hyd pumps have a pressure gauge testing port on each pump including the pilot pump. simply add a bleed off fitting Stauff SMK20-1/4-npt test port with a 1/4 npt gauge adaptor and 1/8 air hose barb. with this you can have the machine running and up to temperature before extracting the oil sample that will be most representative of your machine. the fittings mentioned will allow you to screw on and meter how fast it pours and fills the bottle. with this method if you had suspected that one of your pumps was possibly bad, you can extract say 3 live zone samples and get them tested with ISO Cleanliness particle counts as well as a Spectrography to isolate indeed which pump was on its way out. note: if you can see the particles it is bad. with normal eyesight you can generally see roughly 40 microns in size, smallest possible with 20-20 vision 10 microns. 10 microns = talcum powder 80 microns = human hair
anyways, what i was mentioning before checking of the oil health. the kobelco 70sr between a certain serial number break have this issue. pass off you serial number and i can confirm. YT02-? YT03-? YT04? depending if your serial number applies it can be fixed. i can give exact procedures of what to switch around wiring wise and what solenoid by part number needs to be installed. basically the problem lied in the cpu controller computer program (chip) the only way to eliminate is to take a computer from the next generation machine that came out shortly afterwards and modify the system wiring to work. the new computer has a better program and rids the issue. advise ser# and i'll let you know if this would be true for your machine
It's YT01
hi nedly05, based on your ser# yt01, the machine is one of the first generation units. if you can measure the engine rpm's at low idle, and high idle this would help. you will need a Smartach+D digital tach - reads of the fuel inj line cyl # 1 as well as gauging the pilot pump test port taking a pressure reading first at low rpm and then at high rpm. also at low rpm put the lever lock down and watch the gauge to how low it drops and to what pressure reading. ( 0 - 1,000 psi hyd prs gauge ) also gauge the hyd pumps to take pressure readings at high rpm under boom raise stalled. ( 0 - 6,000 psi hyd prs gauge ) and e-mail me the results. [email protected] if you e-mail as well beforehand i can forward some technical specs on your machine to compare with. such as e/g rpm & hyd pressures. adam.
I've been noticing that I don't have the precision in the swing that I used to. When I am on an incline I notice that the swing continues to move a little bit after I release the lever. Then when I go to swing again the swing moves like 6 inches or so very fast. My buddy thinks a relief valve is sticking or something. I have also noticed that I can move the whole house a little bit by hand by grabbing the bucket and pushing or pulling it. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!
Go to this link here. It's a thread I started a little while ago. It is the recommended maintenance interval for Cat excavator. It should be close to what you need.
Lots of good info in that- thank you!
