Chipmunks How to keep them away from my cars and equipment?

stefuel · 2025-09-29 20:22

I'm finding collections of nuts and berries on top of the engine on my old pickup. Today I saw a chipmunk sitting on top of my drivers side front tire of my new pickup and later saw a chipmunk scurry across the driveway under my wife's car and jump up into the engine compartment. What to do???

Rat traps. Bait with peanut butter, then add bird seed on top. Ed

I have trapped well over a hundred of them with a Hav-A-Hart live trap. It has two doors on it one needs closed when the trap is set or the little ba***rds will escape. I will post a photo of the trap tomorrow and you can see how I bent the trigger rod so the 1 door will be held shut. The trap and the lil rat somehow fall into a plastic tub of water.

Keep it fun, buy a legal suppressor and shoot the little bastards. Just don’t make the mistake I did and kill all of them. Then you have a year, coming up on two now, that you never see one around the yard and only hear them in the woods. Just finally getting a couple around the house. Need to build up the herd a little bit. Great practice for deer hunting. If you can shoot one of them at 25 yards, gotta be doing something right with the trigger!

You jinxed me. Found chipmunk hanging from front door screen yesterday morning. Opened door and let the dog out. That kept her occupied for an hour or two. Of course, after quitting time, just made myself a drink and wouldn’t you know it, damn dog dragged a 20 pound beaver it had dug out of its lodge and made like chipmunk and plopped it at my feet on my deck.

Don't know if cats will take chipmunks. Some will I am sure. My cats will not bother groundsquirrels but squirrel eliminateor trap will.

Cats love chipmunks. They play with them, lose them, find them, start all over again. Then they come in the house and puke chipmunk guts all over your best rug. Rinse, repeat again the next day.

A 10 year old with a pellet gun, especially if there is a bounty on chipmunks . . .

Pellet guns are probably a felony in Illinois. Killing Chipmunks will land you more time than looting a shoe store.
