Just picked up this forklift and it needs rods for the tilt cylinders they are rusted real bad. Can't find a part number for them. Can any body help me with that or steer me to a site that has a parts lookup for the rods ?
I don't know what your chances are, of acquiring new tilt cylinder rods for a Clark forklift that is probably late 60's or early 70's. Clark Materials Handling has been through dozen of corporate reshuffles and is now owned by the Koreans, and the current Clark company is only interested in supplying parts for recent models (say under 20 years old). What I do, is find a local chrome shafting supplier, acquire the correct diameter and length needed, then get the shaft machined to the original dimensions/shape/thread on the piston end - then have the eye cut off the old rod and welded to the new shaft. If you have a machinist close buddy with a lathe, as I do, that's a big help! The other option is to find a company reasonably close that is parting out forklifts, and acquire good used tilt rams from them.
Thanks for that. But i see amazon and a few other places list tilt rods for calark, but i need the correct part number to see if they have mine. Thanks again for responding.
Try this part number, and check with the company to ensure the dimensions are correct for your machine. The rod only comes as an assembly, complete with piston. I'd forgotten the rod comes threaded on the mast end, the eye isn't welded on. If still needed: Google Nash Forklift Supply, Nicholsville, KY. Get their website/address.phones. Contact them with your full model/SN and the mast number (off one of its rails). I recall the tilts vary with the mast heights (degree of tilt). If you can provide valid numbers, they can get you fixed up. May be used cylinders.
