Clark-Hurth 3 Speed Transmission

Just had a problem come up with my Trojan 1500Z with the HR Clark 18000 3 speed transmission. Oil has started spewing out of the breather near the charge pump. Did a Google search and was not able to find any info on the topic. The machine was repowered with a Cummins 4BT and connected directly to the torque converter. No other modifications made as far as the transmission is concerned. The machine ran for over 20 hrs and operation was normal. Oil out of the breather started as just a seep when the machine was stopped, and then started loosing over a gallon at a time while in use and when stopped, the oil coming out of the breather became worse. Any help is appreciated. Paul

Clark version had a check valve inside the breather to allow air in to prevent a vaccuum forming in the convertor but keep oil from coming out. Plastic parts prone to break up and allow oil to come out. Clark P/N 238535. Should be able to get at Minnpar.com or at Trojan dealer. As far as I know it should be the same part.

Sometimes one just needs to take a step back to see what is really happening. Yes, the oil is coming out of the transmission breather. I noticed a drop in the hydraulic fluid. Topped off the hydraulic tank and placed a bucket to catch the oil that was coming out of the breather. Only time the oil comes out of the breather is when the bucket functions are used. The difference in the oil drop in the hydraulic tank was more or less equal to what I was able to capture. I drove the machine around shortly after toping off the hydraulic tank. the bucket had been positioned about 4" off the ground. No leaks at all while driving. Stopped the machine and cycled the bucket curl and set it down. Oil was leaking shortly after the bucket was activated and oil continued to flow long after the engine was shut off. The oil is definately under pressure in the transmission. Checked the manual to see where there is a connection between the hydraulic system and the transmsission. The only connection I found is where the hydraulic pump is driven by the transmission. The front hydraulic pump seal must be leaking badly to be able to allow oil to enter the transmission. Haven't pulled the pump yet to see what is going on. Will post results when issue is fixed. Paul
